Boundary Peak Scramble - Jasper National Park

8.5 km return / 850 m elevation

Now, this is a good scramble. When I describe it to friends I say that it's 'good bang for your buck'. Not too difficult for a confident and competent scrambling and the views are just out of this world!

The parking lot for this scramble is the first parking lot closest to Highway 93 if you are headed down to the Toe of the Glacier hike. It is directly opposite the Icefield Centre which is where the Ice Explorer tours start from. It is 103km south of Jasper on the Icefields Parkway (Highway 93).

Park here and walk down the road that the buses use to drive to the depot to then drive onto the glacier for the tours. Just before you reach the depot there will be a creek coming down from the glaciers. A trail should be visible from here and it heads up on the left-hand side of the creek.

The trail continues up to an alpine meadow where we saw some bighorn sheep. The views that keep on getting better as you start to climb. Stay to the left of the main ridge and you should be able to see Boundary Peak straight up from where you are. Now the scree will appear I have read that normally there is a well-worn trail visible in the scree. However, as we did this peak early in the season there were multiple snow patches that might have been blocking the trail or one hadn't been worn in. Danielle and I just kind of winged it and picked our own route up the summit.

Once you reach a rock ledge then this is the final ridge walk to get to the summit. Once you are at the summit enjoy some of the best views that Jasper can offer you.

We headed down the same way that we ascended and to be honest we just kinda picked our own route down.
